Becky Khayum M.S., CCC-SLP, President and Speech Pathologist

Becky Khayum Becky Khayum is a co-founder of MemoryCare and also serves as President, Therapy Coordinator and Speech Pathologist. Becky has developed a passion for helping those with Alzheimer’s and other memory disorders after working in nursing homes and assisted living facilities around the Chicago region. She also served as a therapy coordinator in an independent/assisted living setting for several years. She is dedicated to the education of all those who work with Alzheimer’s until a cure is found. Becky holds a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Purdue University.

Tara Merlo M.S., OTR/L, Occupational Therapist

Claire Bemi Tara Thompson Merlo has been practicing Occupational Therapy in Chicagoland for over 15 years in a variety of settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing as well as retirement centers in Lake Forest and Chicago's Lakeshore. As an occupational therapist, her mission is to help patients be as safe and independent with daily activities as possible. She has many areas of interest including technology adaption, cognitive impairment, visual perceptual treatment, low vision, upper body treatments, myofascial release, and incontinence rehab.

Christi Mecca M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Pathologist

Christi Mecca Christi holds a Bachelors degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders and a Masters degree in Speech Pathology from Saint Louis University. She has provided assessment and treatment services for adults and children in a variety of settings. Christi has gained clinical experience working in a skilled nursing facility, head injury resource center, VA medical center, elementary school, and an early childhood language/literacy clinic.



Claire Bemi M.A., CCC-SLP, Speech Pathologist

Claire Bemi Claire holds a Bachelors degree in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Illinois University. She has worked in a variety of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in the Chicago region. Claire has a passion for working with adults with neurological, speech and swallowing impairments.





Gretchen Olson M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Pathologist

Christi Mecca Gretchen earned her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Rush University and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of New Hampshire. She has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. Gretchen has participated in research related to patient advocacy and increasing awareness of the language disorder, aphasia. Most recently, she has worked with the American Speech and Hearing Association to develop educational material aimed at training emergency personnel about aphasia.



Smita Mahajan M.A., CCC-SLP, Speech Pathologist

Christi Mecca Smita earned her Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University. She has a passion for working with adult neurogenic disorders and has worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient rehabilitation and home health care. Smita is bilingual and fluently speaks Hindi and Punjabi.




Omar Khayum, Treasurer & Secretary

Omar Khayum Omar Khayum is a co-founder of MemoryCare and also serves as Treasurer and Secretary. With a background in management consulting, finance and economics, he supports business development and back-office operations for MemoryCare. Omar holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Purdue University.
